Working here
Roughly forty people, most of them on a site rather than at a desk, running gear that cuts concrete with water. It is outdoor work, often at night, and it is not for everybody.
The work
- Ultra-high-pressure operator
Hand lance and robot work on concrete, coatings and plant. Most of the people doing it now came in with no jetting experience and were trained on the gun.
- Line removal crew
Night shifts on live carriageway behind traffic management, mostly on the Stripe Hog and the removal fleet.
- Vacuum and hydro excavation
Digging around live services, recovering slurry, and running the loader on shutdowns.
- Supervision and project work
Running a crew inside someone else's permit system, and being the person the asset owner rings.
Where the crews are
Crews travel from the nearest depot rather than from one yard, so where you live decides which work you are on more than what you are qualified for.
Send a CV even when nothing is advertised.
Crewing follows the shutdown calendar, so the gap between no vacancies and three of them is often a fortnight. We keep CVs on file and go to them first.
